You really feel the sense of dread, and lack of life. With it being set in a very devastating future, that to the point, it's a wonder how there is even life around these parts. The style itself on the other hand, really fits the themes of the show. No matter how certain things look, when it's put in certain lightning, it really fits in so well with the overall product, that it looks fine in general. As NieR will make you sad, it'll make you feel happy, a game that can do that, is a game worth playing, and if it translates well into anime form, then it'll do te same here. Rather than reading through a review for it. I don't wanna go into touch detail, as honestly the main selling point of NieR and it's story, is to experience it first hand. Leaving most androids among other machine like beings to roam it, and settle their own differences, mostly through battles of combat, and much more. We're set in the far future, where humanity has fled to the moon, or most of what was left of it. That's how good the quality of writing is. They could introduce you, to the most random of character, but the writing is so good and strong, by the end of it, you would've cared for the character, and wanted them to succeed. What NieR has, as the drive to see more, to wonder more, when it comes to the characters, world building, and it's story. Which isn't a negative, more that the anime itself, will sell itself to new viewers of the series,to sell the game and it's world to them, to be enjoyed and experienced for all. While the anime stands on it's own feet in it's own right, the game will for sure stand more so. and long as it's translated well into an anime setting, will help drive it forward in the long run.ĭespite that however, I would say to still play and experience the games first hand. It's as if NieR breaks that mold of 'OK' or 'not good' game stories, as it's a story that is well received, For it's deep story, characters, and many plot points that really hit you deep in the feels. In NieR's case, they're not only well established in the gaming world, but they're well loved too. But in the case of NieR, instead of being a title that either not many know, or it isn't as widely regarded. I do feel like it's a bit hard to really rate NieR as an anime product, when as per normal, Game adaptations are normally hit or miss. My global rating and opinion of it might change in the future because it's still airing. Guess this turned out more like a review of the game and not just where the anime is for now, but oh well. NieR's CGI looked rough in some scenes, but that was really just because of the detailed mecha models and the shading, but we are going to see less of these in the future so it's fine and shouldn't be the subject of hard criticism. ![]() CSM had great CGI (a lot better than NieR: Automata) AND great 2d animation, but people still found a way to brag about it. ![]() The adaptation also has anime specials only based off live concerts of the game and such.Īs for the visuals they're pretty enjoyable, unlike what others might say, but we all know how toxic this community is and animation is always the subject of criticism for a lot of popular new anime. The opening and ending are amazing and I like how they didn't change the game's OSTs and kept them intact in this adaptation. I'd recommand just playing the game really you'll be amazed (and don't you forget Replicant!) because the fighting scenes, action and felt emotions are really meant to be experienced first hand and not as spectator, but if you can't or dont want to, you're definitely missing out. It's sad how it gets overshadowed by its 2017 sequel. I just hope NieR Replicant gets an anime adaptation next because it's almost as amazing as NieR: Automata. meaning with very well written characters that will get you attached to them (9S for me personally). ![]() The story gets very tragic at some point (by the beginning of C route for those who have played it). It makes you wonder what it really means to be human, what are the things humans do or have that makes them human and that the androids and machines lack, why do they kill machines if the two are fundamentally the same, Are those really emotions that the machines are expressing, or are they just just imitations? This masterpiece is the ultimate humanist fable. Played NieR: Automata and NieR Replicant 2 years ago and I have to say this looks amazing.
